Mencap Celebration Evening - 26th June 2012

On Tuesday 26th June, we held our annual Celebration Evening for Sutton Mencap, who use our Food Technology rooms to provide cooking opportunities for people with learning disabilities.

The evening started with a powerpoint presentation in the canteen from Katie Leverick, the session co-ordinator.  Many students could identify themselves in the photos taken during the sessions where they were learning how to prepare tasty, healthy food for themselves.

Mrs Peart thanked the school for their support over the past seven years and was grateful for the undertaking to continue classes for another year.  Mrs Peart told the group that Mrs Greatorex was retiring at the end of the summer term and thanked her for her support.

Mrs Greatorex said how much the school valued the link with Sutton Mencap and that she personally had enjoyed watching the students’ skills improve over the years.  She handed out achievement certificates, a cookery book and a gift from the school to each student.

The celebration food was prepared by students beforehand and was beautifully presented on tables decorated with red, white and blue.  A lovely evening was enjoyed by all those who attended.

Wallington Methodist Church Makeover Project - December 2011

Last December, we just finished painting the Wallington Methodist Church shutter for the church hall in time for Christmas. Having researched the local community and brainstormed many different ideas, we decided to use a street view of several of the landmarks around Wallington as our final brief. The eye-catching, colourful design has attracted many favourable comments from local residents.

The project developed our skills in painting on different materials, and working on large-scale projects, and was a very valuable experience for us all.

Our grateful thanks go to Mrs Elelman, who gave so freely of her spare time to support us, and to Mrs Wilkinson.
